Ellis Robins is an all boys high school in the suburb of Mabelreign Harare. The school boasts of a proud history dating back to the 1950s. Over the years, the school has helped shape the future of thousands maybe millions of the country’s finest young men. These now occupy important positions in the commerce and industry and other areas of our country’s economy.
The school’s motto Esse Quam Videri – “it is better to be than seem to be” has guided and molded all generations of the Robins. All who have passed through this school remember and apply this motto with pride. As all Robins say; Once a Robin, always a Robin.
The Ellis Robins school colours are yellow and blue, the badge has two dolphins facing each other, and the school motto is “Esse Quam Videri” which means “It’s Better To Be Than To Seem To Be”.
The school is one of the popular group A schools that participate in the Cottco Schools Rugby Festival which is held annually at Prince Edward School. Ellis Robins is also popular for using the trademark nickaname “FUSH”. They are rivals with Allan Wilson School with whom they have competed with in various sporting disciplines over the years.
There are four sporting houses at the school – Malcom, Lawley, Abercorn and Newton. Boarders are automatically placed into Malcom; the boarding hostel is called Malcom House. Other sports at the school include Soccer, Field Hockey, Table Tennis , Lawn Tennis, Chess, Cricket, Volleyball, Badminton, Basketball, Cross Country and Gymnastics.
The school does well in Public Speaking and Debating competitions.
